The Obama effect on interracial dating

Just in case 10 years from now people mine the data and see a big rise in interracial dating, I’m setting myself up to take credit for coining the term ‘The Obama Effect on interracial dating.’

I want to land an interview on public radio and be on the Oprah show (whatever being ‘on Oprah’ might look like in 2018).

And I’m only half joking.

After ‘Something New‘ came out a while back, I got the sense – at least anecdotally – that more black women who saw it became open to and interested in dating interracially.

I wonder if having a self-titled ‘mut‘ in the white house will have a similar effect – not just on black women but on folks of all ethnic backgrounds.

Think of all the future parents coupling off wanting all their kid to be the next biracial President further bridging our nation’s myriad racist narratives. I could see this having a lot of traction among white folk.

As a mut myself, I can say that mutdom is a great way to be (though everybody thinks i’m latino) and I am to predicting that Obama will cause a drastic spike in interracial dating.
